Abstract

The purpose of this experiment is to collect and analyze the mud present in the mud volcanoes near the Salton Sea in California. The purpose is to analyze the clays found in and these mud volcanoes to determine if they have been subjected to metamorphosed conditions in their uplifting journey to the surface. The goal of this is to understand what exactly is happening to the mud as it flows through the subsurface and if it is experiencing enough changes in temperature to contain a metamorphic temperature signature within its composition.
