Abstract
The poems in this collection create deliberate disjunctions of noun-verb agreement and verb tenses in order to stress musical and auditory aspects. The poems here replace the lyric "I" with multiplicity of voices and speakers. They subvert the conventions of textual representation in a creative use of white space and deconstruct familiar syntactic usage to create a unique experience that highlights the sound pleasure of the words, the tendency, the hunger of the listener for understanding. The goal of thump, a word that both describes a sound and sounds like its description, is to create complexity, accessibility and emotional resonance that will move the reader beyond linear syntactic meaning into a place of otherness, emotion, sensuality, and personal experience.
