Summary
Tom Rivera interviews two guests from South Colton, Rudy Oliva and Bobby Vasquez. Among most points of discussion in the interview, discrimination as an obstacle comes frequently. Spanning from having an extremely racist principal to being denied a house that someone wants to buy. The topics of old businesses, hangouts, music, and entertainment in Colton are also mentioned. Both men then talk about their time in Colton, especially about Vasquez’s sports and their group the Kingsmen during high school. The Korean War is also a topic, where people they knew had died and how Vasques registered and Oliva was drafted. Sports, particularly baseball, are discussed again but at length with mentions of home teams like the Colton Mercuries. The interview ends with a discussion of discrimination in the workplace, speaking Spanish in school, and Dr. Rodolfo Serrano’s role in the Colton project.
