Summary

Tom Rivera interviews Rudy Contreras, a man who was previously interviewed but continued in this new recording. Starting off from the previous interview’s topic, Rivera and Contreras discuss the contributions of Juan Caldera, such as the Plunge and baseball field. River then asks Contreras to recollect memories of the 1938 Flood that destroyed homes and the way of life for some. After the prior topic, both men discuss the Broadway of South Colton as well as the stores and businesses it once held. Then after going back to the topic of fruit picking and orange groves, Contreras talks about some racist incidents he faced. Particularly, when he and others around him were told mean things or even had rocks thrown at them. Contreras then discusses his family and his large number of grandkids as well as the history of pachucos and zoot suits in South Colton. The interview ends with Contreras talking about a family member being unable to be served at a restaurant in Texas at the time of the recording.
