Abstract
Elizabeth Hangan shares her childhood memories from San Bernardino and Montclair. She describes how coming from a musical family and growing up in the folk music scene impacted her childhood and her career choice. She narrates her experience of participating in the Civil Rights Movement as a child, including helping her parents Clabe Hangan & Emily Orr campaign for No on Prop 14. Elizabeth explains her memories attending a local freedom school and being bussed as part of school desegregation efforts around Parkside and Muscott elementaries. She describes the culture shock of her move to Montclair, her path into folk music and reflects on the Black Lives Matter movement today.
