Abstract
In the second part of the recording, Jamie Zeffery interviews Judi Penman, a close friend of Jack Hill, in the Chamber of Commerce. Penman started the interview by reading a document, in which she discusses how she met Hill during a breakfast for the members of Casa Nino. As she read, she mentions how Hill calmly accepted his loss in his early attempt to be in the Chamber of Commerce. She said that Hill was a gentleman who gave strength to others and that she loved him. After finishing the letter, Penman tells Zeffery about the animosity and racism placed on Hill, specifically George Schnarre who did not want Hill in office. Though Hill was very much liked in his place of work, many implied his “illness” to be a factor as to why he didn’t win the first time. Penman then talks about how, after turning to faith to do her death of the day, successfully stopped Warbuton Miller from taking advantage of Hill’s kindness. Miller had given medals of himself and his wife, to which the chamber laughed at behind his back. Once having heard that Miller wanted Hill to do the same thing and Hill being too kind to say no, Penman called Hill and changed his mind about the medals. The interview ends with Penman not saying any more words for Hill as she does not want to cry.
