Abstract

Students of working class families do not always have access to college and career compared to those of middle and upper class. With the grant, both parents and their children in elementary grades were given access to a four-year university. During this university, participatory action research parents and their children toured a university. Students engaged in a one-hour hands on lesson with university students and their professor. During the classes, parents had the opportunity to hear about what students need in high school to be prepared for the UC and CSU schools. Before the trip, parents were given a pre-survey and the same post-survey was given to parents after the trip.
