Abstract
This study will be a systematic literature review that seeks to find similarities, differences, trends, and limitations in previous literature on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and substance use in youth aged 12 to 17. The significance for this research is high as drug overdoses in youth continue to increase. The study design will be a descriptive qualitative study. The implications that these findings will have for the social work practice include increasing awareness and understanding of the commonality of ACEs and the risk they put youth at in terms of negative outcomes such as substance use. Moreover, it will create awareness that ACEs affect individuals and create negative outcomes while the individual is still in their youth.
