Abstract
Social workers are among the largest group of professionals in social services. They are trained specifically to meet the needs of their complex client populations. In order for their work to be more effective, social workers must establish rapport quickly and develop a therapeutic relationship with their clients based on understanding their background. Clients often feel more comfortable with a worker from a similar background or ethnic idenity. This study explores identifying the motives of new students entering the profession.
