Summary
Tom Rivera interviewed Eleanor Noriega Muratalla, a woman with a deep history in South Colton. The recording begins with Noriega Muratalla speaking on memories of past neighbors and La Paloma, her old neighborhood. After speaking about businesses she remembered and on segregation in Colton, the interviewee explains her parents’ history and eventual divorce. Her father was a businessman and was the person who started El Sombrero, a staple business in South Colton. Rivera asks about his guest’s family’s connection to Mormonism, of which Noriega Muratalla goes over the generational history. Though there is an eventual disaffiliation of the faith from her father and she remains Catholic, the interviewee keeps a connection with her other familial religion. The interview ends with the woman’s best memory of South Colton and the feeling of belonging in the city.
