Summary
University Dean and Community Leader
In this two part interview with retired Dean of the School of Education at CSUSB, Dr. Ernest García, Dr. Tom Rivera and César Caballero, Dean of the Pfau Library at CSUSB, ask Dr. García to talk about leaders in South Colton. He names many South Colton residents who went on to have professional and college careers. Dr. García highlights the accomplishments at Wilson Jr. High in South Colton, especially about how the arts were promoted by the WPA during the Roosevelt years in which the school had various musical groups, bands, orchestras, and even opera. Dr. García talks about prejudice against the Mexican population and how it affected schools, the business community, recreational activities, and employment in Colton. Dr. García shares the long educational road to receiving his doctorate, and the achievements of which he is most proud. This is an inspiring story.
