Abstract

Ron and Lena Robinson discuss their careers as Black law enforcement officers in San Bernardino County. Ron Robinson describes his move to San Bernardino and why he chose to leave Kaiser Steel despite a pay cut. He talks about his time spent in Highway Patrol and some of the situations he experienced, both on the job and within his department before he moved on to work for the National Transportation Safety Board. He discusses experiences with racism on the job and how being a Black officer impacted his perspective. Lena Robinson describes her path to law enforcement, beginning with her work in the prison system before working for the Rialto Police Department. She talks about her promotions throughout the department and how she was able to use her position as well as some of the challenges she faced as a result.
