Abstract
In this interview, Joseph Mays is the guest. Mays is asked about Jack Hill, to which he explains that he met him after joining the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Hill was kind enough to give the church access to his catering space and supplies, which Mays worked on while on the meat committee for the church picnic. The topic then changed to a discussion about the Shade Tree Group, which was created after the closing of the Norton Air Force Base. It started just as a way to work on car maintenance and trade war stories. The group then soon started to celebrate birthdays and even sponsor and give scholarships to organizations such as the Debutantes of San Bernardino. Mays then goes back to discussing Hill and how he and many others knew Hill from various interactions. These included the church, the Chamber of Commerce, and so on. The interview ends with Mays describing Hill as a man who made positive changes no matter the obstacle. Mays also said that Hill would tell the young people that they should never quit.
