Abstract
The interview covers Dr. Jean Peacock's background, family history, and involvement in the Black Future Leaders program. Dr. Peacock discusses growing up in a close-knit, educated family in Texas, with a strong emphasis on the importance of education and social responsibility instilled by her grandfather. She describes how her grandfather and family helped support students at local Black colleges, and how this influenced her own commitment to social justice and mentoring youth. Dr. Peacock also shares her perspective on the role of the church and organized religion, critiquing the focus on certain moral issues rather than addressing social needs. She expresses a desire for the Black community to reconnect with its heritage and spiritual roots, while striving for excellence and supporting one another. The interview also touches on Dr. Peacock's own educational journey and the mentorship she has provided to students, who continue to seek her guidance and support.
