Abstract
Jennifer Tilton interviewed Tom Atchely, a man with extensive knowledge of Redlands history. The interview began with Atchley describing his family history in the dairy market and his own journey of unlearning prejudiced beliefs during the Civil Rights era. The conversation then moved to Atchley’s love of history and his goal to learn what was forgotten about Redlands’s multicultural impacts. As he had been a history teacher, the topic was one Atchley constantly explored through with personal examples. Real estate was a conversation Tilton had with Atchley, especially on the practice of redlining. After more on Redlands architecture, the Klu Klux Klan is discussed. Atchely recounts the history of the hate group in Redlands, particularly about an event where the Klan tried to use a local church for their activities. The interview ends with further talk of the real estate market.
