The Black Voice News was first published by students at UC Riverside 40 years ago. In 1980 Hardy and Cheryl Brown acquired the newspaper. The paper focuses on the inland area’s black community. The newspaper has been part of that community for over four decades. Its print circulation has grown from approximately 500 to more than 10,000 readers. In 2012 the Black Voice Foundation located copies of 80-85 percent of the historical issues and donated them to Pfau Library. The library is digitizing them to preserve and provide access to this part of the community’s history.
