Summary

In this interview, Tom Rivera has a set of interviewees, all of which have a past connected to South Colton. The interviewees are Gloria Castillo, Rudy Contreras, Ernie Garcia, Raul Gomez, Ralph Haldida, Adam Ornelas, Esther Ramos, Mel Salazar, Franco Valdez, and Chuck Vasquez. Each of the individuals briefly describes their relationship to each other and other members of the South Colton community. As the video spans, the interviewees go over various topics. They begin by talking about their lives then move on to the agriculture and fruit they saw in their youth. There was also a large focus on the role of both softball and baseball in this community from early on. The topics vary after this, such as De Facto segregation, defunct businesses, and the role of music for some of the Coltonites. The discussion of prejudice before and after military service in World War II and the Korean Conflict is brought up as well. There is also a mention of Juan Caldera and Rey Abril Sr., two men who helped South Colton in different ways and, unfortunately, their lack of recognition. The interview ends with reflecting on people they knew and of stories from long ago.
