Abstract
This lesson plan incorporates project based learning which facilitates students working as small groups to create collateral marketing for local "not for profit" organizations. Students participate as a self-directed group in the design process (stages of thinking): define, research, ideate, prototype, select, implement, and learn (Ambrose & Harris, 2010) In defining the process methodology, as Lauer (2018) states that Project Based Learning (PBL) is an innovative pedagogic strategy where participants "learn by doing" which promotes critical thinking, enhanced educational outcomes, and empowerment.

Process Methodology:
Representatives of three local non-profits, Boys & Girls Club of the Inland Empire, C.A.S.A. (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and Salton Sea Art Collective came to class to present their missions and visions. Six small student groups chose which cause they would like to create marketing for.
The student groups were responsible for interacting with their clients, determining what graphic design marketing collateral will best serve the mission and vision of the client and be responsible for member roles duties, completion of tasks, presentation, deliverables and accumulating metrics on relative success through an online assessment instrument they create using Google forms. Students were provided BaseCamp software for team collaboration, communication and sharing resources.
After attending four workshop sessions of Project Based Learning through Q2S Enhancing Pedagogy series (Heistercamp & Oakes, 2018) I created a PBL exercise for students in the Art343 Graphic Design 2 class in Winter 2019.
