Abstract

Investigates the genetic differentiation of California treefrog (Pseudacris cadaverina) populations among and within the 16 major southern California watersheds, four of which drain into desert basins. An 1100 bp portion of the mitochondrial genome, including most of the cytochrome b gene, was sequenced for 221 individuals from 46 populations. Results indicate that the broad-scale geographic distribution of genetic diversity in the California treefrog is due in large part to the separation of populations into different major watersheds and mountain ranges.
