Abstract

In order for computer hardware to be utilized to its potential in the middle school classroom, relevant computer software programs must be readily available for teacher and student use. Computer use has increased both in school and home settings and with this increased use comes an increased need for programs suitable for the subject matter taught in the classroom. Current educational research indicates that student performance is increased with the use of software that is directly relevant to the curriculum.

Science software relevant to the middle school science curriculum is available and freely distributable for educational use. The difficulty lies in finding the available resources and evaluating those programs which are most useful. Once located and compiled, this software is a valuable tool for middle school science teachers and their students. The science software curriculum compiles these resources and makes them easily accessible to the science teacher wishing to utilize the available computer hardware to its highest potential.
