Abstract
Michael Richey's collection of short fiction focuses on the drudgery of being alive. His characters are painfully flawed, wounded by life, and often hopeless. While depressing to some readers, the author attempts to capture the pain and struggles that face all people at some point over the course of a life. If his characters are not personally relatable, they are at least a visage of someone readers have known. This collection of ten stories represents his writing style well, taking a gritty and even offensive look at his characters and the worlds they inhabit. Focusing on themes such as loss, depression, and addiction, the characters offer a sobering and at times comedic perspective on the world we live in and ourselves.
