Abstract
The title of this collection, Lazarus, is taken from one of its short stories about a man that was struck by lightening, was dead for a few minutes, and struggles with moving past a previous relationship. As a whole, the collection is an attempt at calling forth life from something that has no life. Many of the characters in these stories are oblivious to their displacement or the way they deal with it. They believe it is normal and acceptable to exist without processing their loss. The stories emphasize the importance of community, family, and perhaps less obvious, sound parenting. This collection acknowledges the beautiful and terrible problem that we can't resolve issues on our own.
