Abstract

The HIV/AIDS pandemic has struck the prison systems with exceptional voracity. While some prisons have attempted to address the problem with educational programming and case management, Malmsebury prison in South Africa has incorporated a restorative justice component to add to the offender's sense of efficacy and leadership skills once released back into the community. This study also examined the outcomes of Ithemba Project, also referred to as the Group of Hope, an HIV/AIDS Community Outreach Project, at the prison In Cape Town, South Africa.
