Summary
Tom Rivera interviews two individuals, Rose Mercado-Robles and Henry Vasquez, with the former having more of a focus. Mercado-Robles goes on to speak about her family history, particularly about her childhood experiences in Colton. Particularly, the experience she had growing up as a young girl in a traditional Mexican family during the Great Depression. After then discussing her experiences in school and getting her GED, she speaks of how most of her children were able to get secondary education. After she and Rivera talk about past friends and acquaintances, Rivera makes a connection between Mercado-Robles and Vasquez. Vasquez’s grandmother was the choir leader at the church the families attended and further discussed the musicians in Vasquez’s family. The interview ends with Mercado-Robles briefly going over the rules her parents had.
