Summary
Tom Rivera interviews Estela Flores-Becerra, a woman with a deep history in Colton. After some small talk, Flores-Becerra talks about her parents coming from Mexico to the United States. She also talks about the exploitative labor her maternal grandfather had to escape from as well as her father escaping the Mexican Revolution. After discussing having a large immediate and extended family, Flores-Becerra talks about the military service the men in her family had done. Rivera then asks her about time in school, to which Flores-Becerra talks about her mother's involvement in school activities. There were also mentions of the racism that Flores-Becerra experienced as a student. Following that, there is some talk about what she did during and after high school, and Flores-Becerra’s husband, Pete Bracera is introduced into the interview and questioned. Flores-Becerra talks about going back to school when she was older and getting her teaching certificate in her 50s. The interview ends with the couple talking about the best memory in Colton being how close the community once was.
