Abstract

Lorna Carry was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1956. In the 60s her family moved to the Inland Empire when her father was transferred to the Norton Air Force Base. She reminisces about her childhood experiences growing up in Rialto where her parents faced housing discrimination, economic disparities, and a lack of neighborhood racial diversity. During her time at the University of California, Riverside, she was involved with the Black Student Union where she addressed racial diversity on campus. She witnessed racism shift into a form that targeted people of color economically. Her time as a paralegal at the Tublin Taylor Firm showed her the realities of racism in the workplace while working on the Dames and Moore case. She reflects on the differences between the past and the present and shares her thoughts on the Black Lives Matter movement.
