Abstract

ABSTRACT

The High Desert Health and Resource Guide offers an in-dept exploration of the challenges and resources available to support the high desert communities, particularly to include cities of Apple Valley, Phelan and Victorville. These communities are composed of low-income households, and they face significant health disparities and food insecurity. Factors such as limited access to healthcare, mental health services, homeless shelters, and limited availability of health food choices. Additionally, many cities in the region are affected by food deserts, which further hinder resident’s ability to access nutritious, wholesome food. The resource guidebook highlights both the challenges and issues that need to be addressed by offering a comprehensive overview of the available support and resources available to residence to possibly improve health outcomes and overall quality of life in the high desert. The resource guidebook aims to promote awareness, encourage community engagement, and overall contribute to the knowledge of what services are offered in the different community to individuals living in the high desert communities.
