Abstract

ABSTRACT

Case management in a school-based setting is an integral part in helping students overcome barriers by providing support services. These support services include meeting their physiological needs like food, shelter, and clothing. When students lack necessities, it prevents them from focusing on their academics. Therefore, developing feasible plans to address students’ needs is vital to a student’s continued academic success. The research question is as follows: What percentage of students who are referred to case management services end up having their needs successfully met? This study examined the number of students among the K-12 student population in Colton Joint Unified School (CJUSD) district who are referred to the case management program and had their needs successfully met and describe barriers in case management services. The research used quantitative descriptive data collection methods and focused specifically on case management services provided by CJUSD. Quantitative data was collected from Titanium and demographic surveys. The study examined 70 cases that were picked at random. The research findings showed that 45.7% of the needs were successfully met, 10% declined services, and 32.9% were unable to contact. This research helps school social workers understand the different factors that play a vital role in case management and the barriers students face. The goal of this research is to improve students’ ability to function in school by identifying barriers in the case management program.
