Abstract
Haven Fair provides an in-depth look at his family's history and experiences growing up in San Bernardino, California. Fair's great-grandfather, Cecil Carter, moved the family from Mississippi to California after facing discrimination when purchasing land. Haven Fair also shares stories of his close-knit family, the importance of community and church, and the role of mentors and leaders in his life. He discusses the changes he has witnessed in San Bernardino over time, including the decline of the city and the ongoing challenges of racism. Haven Fair reflects on the lessons he has learned from previous generations about standing up against injustice and racism and the importance of love and community support. He emphasizes the need for more open dialogue about mental health and greater collaboration among community organizations to address the needs of the local area.
