Abstract

Cathy Gudis interviewed Virniecia Green-Jordan, a woman with a rich history in the Perris area. Green-Jordan began the interview with a discussion of her history in activism as well as her family history. After going over her time in the Watts Riot, Green-Jordan talked about her educational background and being in a middle-class Black family. When asked about the pockets of success within the local African American population, the interviewee mentioned several families who owned homes or had businesses. She also spoke about her time in grade school where she had been a good student and how she failed to get scholarships despite her excellent grades. Green-Jordan had also struggled with racism in getting the classes she wanted. The interview ended with a further talk on families in the Perris area and the history of the local school districts.
